"Ms. Giordano is clearly a choreographer committed to constructing a personal dance vocabulary.”  -Gia Kourlas, The New York Times.

I am drawn to the visceral movement quality of your work and its attention to detail and precision. I admire the strong importance placed on understanding your specific technique in order to allow your company to have a collective basis in which they move and develop material from. The Giordano technique uses the pelvis, abdominal wall, torso, and trunk muscles as a control center to guide and inform incredibly nuanced movement of subtlety and surrender while also holding the power and stored energy to be explosive and dynamic in range. –Alexa Bender, dancer from Canada

Working with Marie-Christine Giordano and her technique has been one of the most challenging and rewarding dance experiences I have had.  The work is raw and comes from an honest natural place while requiring extreme control and accuracy. The movement is not anticipated but rather a result of momentum and design. –Brooke Jones, Company Member

Marie-Christine Giordano Dance (MCGD) has a two-fold mission that embraces both artistic expression and education.

Sharony is an assistant professor of History at the University of Alabama and a native of Miami with roots in the Bahamas and the “Deep South.” Her ancestral past often shows up in her work. Whether she is investigating the past via historical sources or elsewhere, she is ultimately a storyteller. Her latest book Remember Me to Miss Louisa: Hidden Black-White Intimacies in Antebellum America (Northern Illinois University Press, 2015), like her earlier works, delves into the ironic tensions between pursuits of pleasure alongside real pain that is self-created or introduced by others. Sharony is also the author of Cuttin’ the Rug Under the Moonlit Sky: Stories and Drawings About a Bunch of Women Named Mae (Doubleday, 1997) and Grant Green: Rediscovering the Forgotten Genius of Jazz Guitar (Backbeat, 1999). She is ultimately keenly interested in how people survive their moments, something that also displays itself in her upcoming documentary film “The Grant Green Story,” which traces her former’s husband’s search for greater understanding about his father, the late Blue Note guitarist Grant Green. As a historian, Sharony has a little more time to find the evidence across time and space for these and other queries. She has an MA in Dance and Related Studies (Film, Theatre and History) from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, an MA in History from the University of Chicago and a doctoral degree in History from the University of Illinois.
